Gabby Logan issues scathing takedown of 'depressing' Sydney Sweeney advert

The Weekender

Gabby Logan has called out Sydney Sweeney’s nude advert for a sports prediction company, accusing her of “sexualising” women’s sports.

The Euphoria actor, 29, divided fans when she posed naked while covering her body with sports paraphernalia in the commercial.

Match Of The Day presenter and former gymnast Logan, 54, blasted the “depressing” advert, which she called a “tired cliche”.

"I just find it so depressing that here we are in 2026 where you think you’ve made progress in women’s sport," Logan said on The Sports Agents.

"We’ve mentioned a lot of great women’s sport already, Chappers (Mark Chapman) was waxing lyrical about the Solheim Cup, there’s been a brilliant US Open women’s tennis final this weekend, there’s been the WXV international rugby on this weekend.”

The BBC host went on: "There’s been a lot of incredible women’s sport to watch, the athletics as well, and that in 2026 an advert like that is still around. It’s such a tired cliche and I was glad all these female athletes got the opportunity to call her out."

"We had Deirdre Gogarty on the podcast last week talking about women’s boxing and it just felt to me even more of a sucker punch that she (Sweeney) would then be somebody who would put herself in that position, understanding - hopefully, in her research of playing Christy Martin - the journey of women’s sport," she explained.

Other athletes from around the world have voiced their opinions on the controversial advert, with Team GB star Amy Hunt recently weighing in.

The four-time European athletics champion Hunt called out Sweeney after competing in the women's 200m at the Ultimate Championship in Budapest.

"Sydney Sweeney, this is what women in sport look like," Hunt said: "21.4 [seconds]. Muscles. Hard work, blood, sweat, tears. This is a beautiful evening."

Olympic swimming champion Ariarne Titmus wrote on social media: “I can’t describe how infuriated I feel when I watch this.

“Not only is it a kick in the face to every woman who has dedicated her life to perfecting her craft, but every woman who enjoys sports for what it really is – teamwork, friendship, dedication, excellence, unity. How do we live in a world where monetising a woman’s body and sexualising women’s sport is still a thing?”

On social media, others defended Sweeney, with one sharing a past shirtless campaign that footballer Cristiano Ronaldo had starred in and asking: “How is it any different from this?”
