A John Wick franchise veteran stars in this R-rated action thriller that has completely taken over streaming as a new #1 global hit. Action movies have always been popular in Hollywood, be they standalone or franchise entries, as solid stars, visceral action sequences, and at times intriguing plots do the trick. That said, many action movie franchises have become immensely successful over the years by building on characters with each new film. That gives the audience an emotional connection with releases that might otherwise have only leaned on the action, and the John Wick franchise has benefited a lot from that.
For instance, every John Wick movie has outgrossed the ones that have come before it. The franchise revived Keanu Reeves' career, making him a global fan-favorite once more. 2014's John Wick set the baseline with a healthy $86 million release against a reported budget of $20 million. That built up to a franchise-best $447.1 million by 2023's John Wick: Chapter 4. Along the way, the John Wick movies added many renowned action stars, such as Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Laurence Fishburne, and many more. Now, one of those stars, Scott Adkins, leads Diablo, the movie that has taken over streaming worldwide.
Scott Adkins' Diablo is Taking Over Paramount+
According to data from FlixPatrol, Diablo has become the most-watched movie on Paramount+ worldwide at the time of writing. The R-rated action thriller debuted on the streamer's global Top 10 Movies list this Friday, October 9, already claiming the top spot for itself. As a result of that instant surge on the streaming service, Adkins' Diablo has left behind quite a few major movies on Paramount+'s charts. Some of those include Tom Cruise's nostalgic hit Top Gun: Maverick, the new Paramount+ original movie Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, the horror releases Scream 7 and World War Z, and more.
At the moment, Diablo is reportedly trending on Paramount+ in 17 countries, standing as the streaming service's most-watched movie in all of them, as per FlixPatrol. Some of those include nations like Argentina, Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and more. Diablo is nowhere to be found on Paramount+'s Top 10 Movies chart in the United States, which is currently led by fellow action movie One Mile: Chapter One, for a good reason. According to JustWatch, Diablo is streaming in the US on Tubi. Diablo was originally released in select theaters, VOD, and digital on June 13, 2025.
The R-Rated Thriller Marked A Sneaky John Wick Team-Up
Diablo is not only connected to the John Wick franchise through its gritty R-rated action thriller DNA, but also because it marks a franchise reunion. After all, Adkins played Killa Harkan in John Wick: Chapter 4, the same movie where Marko Zaror gave life to Chidi. Following the 2023 film, the actors teamed up in a major way on Diablo.
Not only do Adkins and Zaror take part in the onscreen action as Kris Chaney, who is trying to save his biological daughter after seemingly kidnapping her at first, and El Corvo, a sadistic killer with a personal vendetta, but the actors also came up with Diablo's story alongside screenwriter Mat Sansom. Now, this sneaky John Wick team-up has exploded, with Diablo becoming Paramount+'s most-watched movie worldwide.
