Une semaine après une course décevante aux Mondiaux de Montréal, Remco Evenepoel était présent dimanche en Slovénie avec l’ambition de décrocher le seul titre de champion qui manquait encore à son palmarès : celui de champion d’Europe en ligne. Le Belge de 26 ans a rempli sa mission en s’imposant dans un sprint à deux devant l’Italien Giulio Ciccone au terme d’un parcours de 196,3 kilomètres reliant Ljubljana à Sencur au nord-ouest de la Slovénie. L’Italien Christian Scaroni termine troisième.

Depuis la première édition en 2016, la course élite messieurs des championnats d’Europe de cyclisme n’avait couronné qu’un seul Belge, Tim Merlier en 2024 à Hasselt. L’an dernier, Evenepoel avait pris la deuxième place derrière Tadej Pogacar.
