Man arrested in QC over theft of 4 car batteries from water company

MANILA, Philippines — A 24-year-old man was arrested in Quezon City for allegedly  taking four maintenance-free car batteries in a compound belonged to a water company.

According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the man, who was identified as alias “Jose,” was allegedly caught committing the supposed battery theft in a water company compound in Barangay Pansol at around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23.

QCPD said in a press release on Friday that the initial investigation from Anonas Police Station 9 revealed that a security personnel conducting a routine roving patrol inside the compound caught the suspect in the act of taking the batteries and then fleeing onto the main road.

The security personnel immediately sought assistance from another guard stationed nearby to apprehend the suspect.

Upon the arrest, four 2SMF Motolite Enduro 15 maintenance-free batteries, with a total estimated value of P22,660, were retrieved from the individual.

Police said the suspect will face charges of theft before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

The QCPD also said that further verification revealed the suspect has previous cases involving alleged violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in 2019, Acts of Lasciviousness in 2023, Robbery in 2024, the Illegal Gambling Law in 2025, the Illegal Numbers Games Law in April 2026, and the Anti-Electricity and Electric Transmission Lines/Materials Pilferage Act of 1994 in January this year. /jpv
