DILG, PNP chiefs visit Banga school after deadly shooting

BANGA, South Cotabato — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla and Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. arrived at Banga National High School before noon Monday, three days after a deadly shooting inside the campus shocked the community.

Remulla and Nartatez inspected the school to assess the situation and security measures being implemented following the Sept. 18 shooting.

The two officials met with school, police, and local government officials as authorities continued their investigation into the shooting and reviewed measures to keep students and school personnel safe.

The visit comes three days after a 16-year-old student opened fire inside the campus, killing two students and wounding six others. The suspect shot himself after the rampage.

The shooting has prompted local governments and law enforcement agencies in South Cotabato and neighboring areas to tighten security around schools. Some local governments have deployed additional police officers, barangay officials, and village watchmen to campuses./coa
