‘Long Day’s Journey Into Night’ Film With Jessica Lange and Ed Harris Lands Quiver Distribution Deal

The feature film adaptation of Eugene O’Neill’s Pulitzer-winning play “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” has been acquired by Quiver Distribution, starring Jessica Lange and Ed Harris.

Lange will reprise her Tony-winning role as Mary Tyrone, starring alongside Harris as her husband, James. Releasing in select theaters Sept. 25, the film will also be screened at Film at Lincoln Center on Monday. 

“To translate and adapt what is arguably America’s greatest play to the screen demands, above all, a remarkable cast,” director Jonathan Kent told Variety. “Working with Ed Harris and the brilliant Jessica Lange —who I directed on Broadway in the same role — was an exhilarating experience. They are both as supremely accomplished on screen as they are on stage. The core of the film inevitably has to lie with the portrait of the tragic Tyrone family — these four actors, I believe, achieve this magnificently.”

Also starring in “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” are Ben Foster as the alcoholic eldest son, Jamie, and Colin Morgan as the optimistically poetic younger son, Edmund, who is based on O’Neill. The author’s autobiographical play follows the Tyrone family as they work through their personal traumas while navigating a balance of love and resentment they hold toward each other.

“Long Day’s Journey Into Night” is produced by Gabrielle Tana, Bill Kenwright and Gleb Fetisov and Redmond Morris. David Lindsay-Abaire adapted the play for screen.
