Indonesia to deploy special police at courts to protect judges

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Police and Judicial Commission have agreed to deploy special police officers at courts to strengthen courtroom security and protect judges' integrity.

"We will reinforce this through a memorandum of understanding and a cooperation agreement to ensure courts are properly protected and judges' integrity is safeguarded," National Police Chief Gen. Suyudi Ario Seto said in a video statement received here Thursday.

Suyudi said the cooperation reflected the police force's commitment to ensuring safe judicial proceedings free from threats and disruptions.

"The police will provide serious security protection to prevent further disturbances during court proceedings, an issue that has persisted at some hearings," he said.

Meanwhile, Judicial Commission Chairman Abdul Chair Ramadhan welcomed the plan to deploy special police officers at courts.

He said their presence would support the commission's oversight and investigative functions.

"We will establish a special police force that operates humanely while remaining proactive and progressive to support an impartial and independent judiciary and uphold the rule of law," he said.
