Dipke flags DCP’s ‘Lawrence Bishnoi Sahab’ remark; police calls it 'slip of tongue'

NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke Monday shared a video showing a Delhi Police DCP referring to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as “sahab” during a news conference, questioning police’s treatment of activists and students.

Police said the video was a year old.“’Lawrence Bishnoi Sahab.’ The respect Delhi Police has for gangsters… Wish they showed even 10% of this courtesy to students and activists who are doing nothing but protest,” Dipke posted on X.In the video of the news conference in Aug last year, the officer is heard saying, “Look, I cannot certify this myself either, but the call that came in had the name ‘Lawrence Bishnoi Sahab’ in it.”

In a separate post, Dipke said, “Instead of cracking down on students and activists, police should focus on actual criminals. This iswhat happens when Govt and police have their priorities completely misplaced.”

Police said, “It was an old video and merely a slip of the tongue.” The officer has since been promoted to be an additional commissioner of police.
