Qatar signs agreement with UN to bring 1.3 million liters of fuel to Gaza

In the latest expansion of Qatar's aid program for Gaza, Doha announced it would work with the UN to deliver 1.3 million liters of fuel to the Strip to support humanitarian efforts.

Qatar signed an agreement with the United Nations to deliver about 1.3 million liters of fuel to the Gaza Strip, the Qatari Foreign Ministry announced Thursday.

According to the announcement, the fuel will be transferred as a grant on behalf of Doha and is intended to support humanitarian needs and the health system in Gaza.

The Foreign Ministry of Qatar said the grant is intended to enable the continuation of essential services and humanitarian operations. Qatar also aims to help entities operating on the ground provide services to Gazans.

Part of the fuel will be allocated to operate hospitals and medical centers, as well as other essential systems and services that depend on a regular energy supply.

According to Doha, the move continues Qatar’s aid program for the Gaza Strip. The statement said that Qatar had supplied Gaza with approximately 30 million liters of fuel from October 7, 2023, until the end of March 2026.

Details relating to the distribution of the fuel remain undisclosed

In February of last year, Qatar announced the supply of an additional 15 million liters of fuel to Gaza, which then increased the total volume in the area to 30 million liters.

Qatar stated that 2.1 million Palestinians, including children, women, the elderly, and the disabled, could benefit from health services and other humanitarian assistance that require fuel.

However, the statement did not specify when or how the fuel would be transported to Gaza or which UN agency would be responsible for distributing it.
