MRT Jakarta says two hurt in Blok M hub kiosk fire

Jakarta (ANTARA) - MRT Jakarta confirmed a fire at a kiosk on the B1 level of Blok M Hub in South Jakarta on Monday afternoon, saying two employees were injured.
Blok M Hub operations staff and other personnel quickly extinguished the fire with portable extinguishers and activated the smoke-extraction system, MRT Jakarta corporate secretary division head Rendy Primartantyo said in a statement on Tuesday.
Firefighters from the Kebayoran Baru Subdistrict also inspected the site to ensure the affected area was safe, he said.
Two employees of the Cuanki Sadaya kiosk were injured. They received first aid at the scene before being taken to a health facility for further treatment.
Initial information suggested a leak in the kiosk's stove gas line caused the fire, but authorities were still investigating the exact cause.
"The affected kiosk will remain closed until inspections and further response measures are completed," Rendy said.
MRT Jakarta apologized for the disruption and expressed sympathy and concern for the employees affected by the incident.
The company will review safety measures at vendor kiosks, step up fire-prevention education and strengthen emergency response readiness at stations and transit hubs.
"MRT Jakarta appreciates the support of firefighters and everyone who helped respond. The safety of customers, management, kiosk employees and everyone at Blok M Hub remains our top priority," Rendy said.
The South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Office, however, said one employee suffered minor injuries in the blaze, which it suspected was triggered by a leaking LPG hose in the kitchen.
The office received a report of the fire at Jalan Sultan Hasanudin No. 109 in Melawai at about 2:35 p.m.
"At about 2:20 p.m., an employee was cooking when flames suddenly erupted, apparently from a gas hose, and spread to a pile of paper beneath the stove," Sjukri said on Monday.
