Coronation Street reveals another huge Sarah trial setback in early ITVX episode

Coronation Street spoilers follow from Thursday's episode (15 October), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn't aired on ITV1 yet.

Coronation Street's Todd Grimshaw gives evidence at Sarah Platt's murder trial in tonight's episode – but soon fears that he's done more harm than good.

Todd is a key witness in the case and hopes that his recollections of Theo Silverton's abusive behaviour will support Sarah's self-defence argument. But with the stakes so high, Todd struggles under the pressure…

Thursday's episode begins with Todd deliberately avoiding the courtroom, as he dreads speaking about his domestic abuse ordeal in such a public setting.

Tyrone Dobbs steps in to help Todd see the situation differently, arguing that he owes it to himself and Sarah to tell the truth.

As Tyrone has his own experiences with an abusive partner, Todd listens to what he has to say and nervously heads to court after all.

When his big moment arrives, Todd speaks honestly about Theo's true nature and how this explains why Sarah would have feared for her life in their horrifying final showdown.

However, the prosecution barrister soon bombards Todd with difficult questions and highlights how his loyalty to Sarah could be clouding his judgement.

With Todd stumbling over his words and appearing rattled, is he starting to make Sarah's situation even worse?

Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd, previously told us: "There's quite a few of us, when it was unclear who had done it, who were potentially in the frame – and I suppose are now potentially witnesses for that evening and what happened.

"[They're also] witnesses for the character that Theo was in the lead-up to it. That will form a big part of Sarah's defence – that it was an act of self-defence."

After Todd's troubles in court, Sarah's daughter Bethany makes another plea to Kit Green to step up and help his ex-partner. Will he come to Sarah's rescue at the eleventh hour?
