‘Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir’ Getting Live-Action Series Adaptation From ‘Slow Horses’ Banner See-Saw Films and Miraculous Corp (EXCLUSIVE)

“Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir,” the Paris-set blockbuster animated superhero series and growing media empire, is entering the world of live-action TV for the first time.

See-Saw Films, the Oscar and Emmy-winning powerhouse behind “Slow Horses” and “Heartstopper” are teaming up with Miraculous Corp on the series, which the two Mediawan companies will co-produce. According to the producers, the new series is being built to reach a “broad and older audience” while also catering to the show’s vast existing fanbase.

Adapting the live-action “Miraculous” will be Emme Hoy, who served as a writer and co-EP on season 2 of See-Saw’ thriller series “Sweetpea” for Sky and Starz, and has written multiple episodes of the BBC’s upcoming espionage series “Honey.”

First created by Thomas Astruc, Jeremy Zag and Nathanaël Bronn and debuting on French TVs in 2015, “Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir” follows Marinette, who is hardworking, kind and endearingly flawed, but convinced she must be perfect to be loved. Meanwhile, Adrien is charming, effortless, and has never once been allowed to choose his own life. By day they are classmates, circling each other with an electric chemistry neither can quite name. By night, as Ladybug and Cat Noir, they fight side by side — fearless, free, completely indispensable to each other. They are, of course, the same two people. They just don’t know it yet.

“Miraculous has always been, at its heart, a story about the distance between who we are and who we let people see. Live action gives us the space to really feel that — to let it breathe, to let it hurt,” said Maria Nicholson, executive producer at See-Saw Films. “We’re aiming to build something with the emotional intimacy of a great romance and the scale of a genuinely epic superhero story. I think audiences are going to fall in love with these characters all over again.”

Distributed by Mediawan Kids & Family in more than 150 countries, the TV series “Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is available on the platforms such as the Disney Channel, Disney+, Netflix, Globo and TF1. Currently in its sixth season, the series recently ranked number one among more than 850 school-age titles tracked worldwide by Parrot Analytics. Season seven is set for a late 2026 launch.

The “Miraculous” franchise itself has become a global digital powerhouse, with 54 million YouTube subscribers, more than 55 billion lifetime views and an average of 900 million monthly views. Its reach also extends across consumer products, gaming, promotions and live experiences. A spin-off movie was released in 2023, while there has also been a stage musical and manga adaptation. Earlier this year, it was announced that “Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir” was getting a new live stage show, set to launch worldwide in 2027.

Writer Emme Hoy, Heath Kenny (Miraculous Corp), Elisabeth d’Arvieu (Mediawan), Maria Nicholson (See-Saw Films)

The upcoming live-action series is being executive produced by Maria Nicholson, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Simon Gillis and Ben Irving for See-Saw Films, and Hoy, with See-Saw’s Nicky Earnshaw serving as a co-producer. Worldwide sales are handled by Mediawan Rights.

“For more than a decade, Miraculous has connected with audiences around the world through characters and stories that inspire, entertain and resonate emotionally across generations,” said Heath Kenny, Chief Content Officer, Miraculous Corp, the joint venture formed in 2024 between Mediawan and Zag Entertainment, founded by Jeremy Zag. “This is a defining next step for the franchise: for the first time, we are bringing Marinette and Adrien’s story into live action, in a bold new format designed both for the millions of fans who have grown up with them and for audiences discovering this extraordinary world for the first time.”

Kenny added that See-Saw and Hoy were “ideal creative partners,” due to their ability to “create ambitious, emotionally sophisticated stories with genuine global appeal.”

“This project illustrates the strength of Mediawan’s international studio model: its ability to bring together renowned creative talent, leading production expertise and a shared ambition behind one of the world’s most popular animated franchises,” said Elisabeth d’Arvieu, Mediawan’s Group Chief Content Officer and CEO of Mediawan Pictures. “The partnership between See-Saw Films and Miraculous Corp combines the complementary expertise of two Mediawan companies to open a new chapter for Miraculous and further expand this iconic franchise internationally.”

Alongside “Sweetpea” and “Honey,” Hoy’s writing credits include Disney+ historical fantasy “Renegade Nell “and Stan Original’s mystery drama series “He Had It Coming.” Her stage work includes the 2022 opening of her adaptation of Anne Brontë’s “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall” at the Rosyln Packer Theatre.

See-Saw Films’ current slate of productions includes the award-winning “Slow Horses,” with season 6 now streaming on Apple TV and seasons 7 and 8 recommissioned, and the Apple feature “Tenzing,” releasing later this month. See-Saw is developing “The Neverending Story,” the live action film series adapted from Michael Ende’s iconic and bestselling novel.

The “Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir” deal was negotiated by Simon Gillis, joint managing director, and Emilia Prior, senior business & legal affairs executive for See-Saw Films; and by Andy Yeatman and Anastasia Sepulchre for Miraculous Corp.

Hoy is repped by Patrick Child at Independent Talent Group and Natalie Stewart at HLA.
