Cape Town announces a nine-hour water shutdown

The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has confirmed a planned water supply disruption in Kommetjie on Tuesday, 11 August, running from 8:00 until 17:00.

The shutdown is needed to facilitate the installation of a sewer connection at the intersection of Wireless Road and Kommetjie Boulevard. The city says this kind of planned maintenance work is necessary to maintain and upgrade the water and sanitation network, even though it causes temporary inconvenience for residents.

Which areas will be affected by the water shutdown

Streets along Wireless Road and the surrounding area will feel the impact, including Christina Drive, Riverside Drive, Flamingo Drive and Duiker Drive. Residents in these streets should expect no supply for the full nine-hour window.

How residents can prepare

The city is urging affected households to store water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during the shutdown. Residents are also reminded to keep taps closed once work is complete, to avoid water loss or damage when supply is restored. For a short period afterward, water may appear discoloured or milky due to trapped air in the pipes, this is normal and will clear if left to stand in a glass.
