Emmerdale confirms Ruby's fate after Joe's terrifying revenge

Emmerdale's Ruby Miligan almost met a grisly end during tonight's episode of the ITV soap, as Joe Tate continued to get his revenge following the death of his fiancée, Dawn.

Joe is convinced that Caleb Miligan is to blame for Dawn's demise, and during Tuesday's (22 September) episode, he told him: "Now you have to feel how I feel," before adding: "Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, coffin for a coffin."

At the beginning of the episode, viewers saw a groggy Caleb waking up after Joe seemingly drugged him. The scene then cut to Ruby waking up in a coffin, terrified as she realised where she was.

Fearing that Joe had already killed his wife as part of his sinister revenge plan, Caleb asked the question, to which Joe replied: "I imagine there's still a tiny bit of air in there."

As Ruby struggled to breathe, she appeared to pass out and it became apparent that there wasn't much time to rescue her.

Realising that time was of the essence, a tearful Caleb attempted to convince Joe to release Ruby.

"Okay you wanted to scare me, well I am. You want me to cry, I'm crying! Please Joe, tell me where she is!" he begged, before shouting: "Will you just tell me!"

However, Joe remained unmoved and when Graham Foster entered the room, Caleb was quick to tell him what Joe had done.

"Leave us," Graham told him as Caleb warned Joe: "If she dies, that will be the end of you!"

Graham proceeded to pick holes in Joe's plan before telling him: "If Ruby's life ends today, then effectively, so does yours," as he convinced him to rethink Ruby's fate.

Joe clearly had a change of heart, as moments later, Graham and Caleb are seen opening the coffin as the latter desperately lifted her out and performed CPR, but to no avail.

Graham was quick to take over, and seconds later, Ruby woke up, gasping for air.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
