Saudi Arabia, BAZNAS launch aid for Flores earthquake victims

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Saudi Arabia's King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) and Indonesia's National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) have launched the first phase of relief assistance for earthquake-affected communities on Flores Island.

"The assistance aims to meet basic needs and alleviate the suffering of affected communities," KSrelief said in a press release received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday.

The launch took place in Satar Kampas Village, East Manggarai District, East Nusa Tenggara, attended by BAZNAS distribution officials, the district head and representatives of local government agencies, disaster authorities and KSrelief.

The first phase involves distributing 15,000 food baskets and 15,000 personal hygiene kits to more than 75,000 earthquake-affected people.

KSrelief and BAZNAS teams also visited affected areas and met local officials to assess humanitarian conditions, identify community needs and determine priority assistance across various sectors.

"These activities will help determine appropriate humanitarian interventions in subsequent phases based on the actual needs of affected communities," KSrelief said.

The center said the initiative forms part of Saudi Arabia's broader humanitarian and relief efforts to assist people affected by disasters and crises worldwide and ease their suffering.
