Serie A | Fiorentina 2-2 Juventus: Old Lady fight back in Florence thriller

Juventus fought back twice with Nick Woltemade and Gleison Bremer to grab a point away to Fiorentina, who had been leading through Mateo Pellegrino and Alieu Njie.
Luciano Spalletti hoped the Juve crisis was behind him after back-to-back wins over Napoli and AZ Alkmaar, despite a growing injury crisis. Weston McKennie and Zeki Celik returned to the squad, with Kenan Yildiz, Andrea Cambiaso, Nico Gonzalez, Manuel Locatelli, Khephren Thuram and Kamil Grabara out, but a new trident was launched with Jeremie Boga, Nick Woltemade and Randal Kolo Muani.
The Viola finally got themselves back on track with a 4-2 victory away to Sassuolo on Monday, after scraping two points from five rounds. Marin Pongracic, Luca Ranieri, Fabiano Parisi and Arthur Atta were still on the treatment table, but Pedro Goncalves and Christ Inao Oulai were preferred to Nicolò Fagioli.
See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

It was a lightning start to the game, as Pedro Goncalves floated a corner kick to the back post for the Mateo Pellegrino free header to give Fiorentina the early lead. The Argentine pulled out the old Gabriel Batistuta celebration in front of the home fans.

McKennie tried to replicate it at the other end with a header inches wide from a corner, then David De Gea scrambled across for a one-handed save on the Juan Cabal chest and volley from the edge of the penalty area.
Juventus did equalise when McKennie sent Randal Kolo Muani down the right, he turned Viery inside out to roll across for Woltemade to sweep in first-time from 10 yards with the inside of the right boot. After three goals in the Europa League, this was his first in Serie A.

Kolo Muani was wreaking havoc down the right against Viery, again pulling back for Woltemade, but this time De Gea made a big save and Teun Koopmeiners’ follow-up was deflected wide.
Cabal also stung De Gea’s gloves from distance and a Kolo Muani effort was charged down in the box by a defender whose hands were clamped behind his back, while Cher Ndour drilled wide and Pedro Goncalves failed to make the most of Jhon Lucumi error playing out from defence, as he too slipped at the crucial moment.
Fiorentina restored their advantage when Alex Jimenez saw his low cross-shot from the right palmed into a crowd by Guglielmo Vicario, with Alieu Njie quicker to react than the Juve defenders to bundle over the line. It was the Swede’s third consecutive game on target.

Franco Mastantuono nearly added another moments later, cutting inside to drill just wide of the far post, but Zeki Celik came off the bench and immediately pulled back from the by-line with no teammates ready to finish it off, then Douglas Luiz couldn’t keep the header down on an Edon Zhegrova cross.
Juventus clawed their way back into it again from a Douglas Luiz corner, was De Gea was hesitant and Gleison Bremer anticipated Radu Dragusin to turn in from close range with a combination of head and shoulder.
Penalty appeals were rejected for an awkward bouncing ball that struck Joao Mario on the arm, while Fiorentina were also angered when Dragusin nodded in a Mandragora corner at the 82nd minute, but it was disallowed for his push on Bremer.
Marco Brescianini’s scorcher in stoppages was parried by Vicario, with Bremer clearing before Willie Gnonto could pounce, then the Juve goalkeeper also kept out Mastantuono’s solo effort at the base of the near post.
