UE tells alumnus Zalameda: Always defend Constitution
MANILA, Philippines—The University of the East (UE) on Friday expressed hope that its alumnus – newly-appointed Supreme Court Chief Justice Rodil Zalameda – will go on upholding the Constitution and fairness in the judiciary.
Zalameda earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from UE Manila.
“The UE community wishes Chief Justice Zalameda continued courage to defend judicial independence, wisdom to uphold the Constitution, and compassion to never lose sight that behind every case are people relying on the fair administration of justice,” UE President and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Zosimo Battad wrote in a statement.

Battad likewise hailed the designation of the new chief justice.

“We are immensely proud of the appointment of Chief Justice Rodil V. Zalameda, an outstanding alumnus of the University of the East (UE), as the country’s top magistrate,” he said.
“We are confident that his principled leadership and proven excellence will fortify a judiciary that is independent, deeply credible, and worthy of the Filipino people’s trust,” he noted.

Zalameda completed his secondary education at UE Caloocan in 1979, and finished his undergraduate studies at UE Manila in 1983.
Just this year, the university awarded Zalameda an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws as a recognition of his accomplishments in the legal profession, particularly in the judiciary. /apl
