APC’s Kallamu wins Gombe/Kwami /Funakaye Federal Constituency by-election – Official

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Usman Kallamu, has won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency by-election held on Saturday in Gombe State.

The result was announced on Sunday by Umar Gurama of the Federal University of Kashere, who served as the returning officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The announcement took place at the Malam-Sidi collation centre in the Kwami Local Government Area.

Mr Gurama, a professor, said Mr Kallamu polled 41,121 votes to defeat candidates of the Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Movement (APM) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NDP).

The LP candidate scored 3,553 votes, while APM and NDP candidates polled 872 and 707 votes, respectively.

“With his 41,121 votes, Kallamu secured the highest number of votes to emerge winner of the bye-election,” he said.

Mr Gurama said a total of 47,301 votes were cast in the election, out of which 46,551 were declared valid, while 750 votes were rejected.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the House of Representatives following the death of the former representative of the constituency, Yaya Bauchi -Tongo.

The election was conducted across 903 polling units in 31 Registration Areas covering Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye Local Government Areas.
