Is TikTok distracting Bryan Leon’s form at Mamelodi Sundowns?

Translate

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Bryan Leon has struggled to replicate his explosive start to life in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), with fans questioning his dip in form.

The 26-year-old Colombian striker enjoyed an impressive introduction to South African football after joining the Brazilians in January, scoring 15 goals in 26 appearances last season.

His clinical finishing made him a nightmare for opposition defenders, with many fans and pundits believing he could have approached the 30-goal mark had he started the 2025/26 campaign with Sundowns.

However, Leon has found goals harder to come by this season, managing just three goals in nine matches. The striker has also come under scrutiny for missing several clear-cut chances.

Sundowns fans question Bryan Leon’s form

Leon’s struggles have sparked debate among football supporters, with some questioning what has changed since he arrived at Chloorkop.

Local soccer journalist Lorenz Köhler raised the issue on X, prompting several reactions from fans. Some blamed the striker’s alleged TikTok activity for distracting him from football, while others suggested opposition teams had figured him out.

@PAPALONENE wrote: “TikTok…. He spends most of the time there…. He doesn’t sleep; the time difference between South Africa and South America is the cause.”

@Honorabledawgs was critical of Leon’s performances in the opposition box, writing: “He’s turning into a rugby player, instead of scoring goals. So many fouls in the opposition box, some unnecessary.”

Meanwhile, @Mthuli4 suggested Brayan Leon may have underestimated the quality of the local league after his impressive start.

“He took our league by storm and started to undermine it, he’s starting to learn now,” the fan wrote.

@RealJAM_ also questioned Leon’s alleged social media activity, saying: “He’s on TikTok lives instead of staying behind at Chloorkop and doing shooting drills.”

Other supporters questioned his ability, with @Mothupi25Les suggesting that his initial success was driven more by hard work than technical quality.

“He came in when alot was expected from him and the team was under pressure, he was running like a mad man in the last season and not playing ball. He can’t play so he can’t score,” the fan wrote.

Brayan Leon has only scored three goals

@maverickvaks also criticised the striker, claiming he had become more focused on life away from football.

“The nice life, he become an Instagram influencer now, he’s forgotten why he came here for or maybe he’s just a fraud,” the supporter posted.

@SollyMongs similarly blamed Leon’s lifestyle for his dip in form.

“He’s enjoying SA baddies and TikTok. He forgot his job and he’s not coming back. Yanga is waiting for him. That hunger is gone,” the fan tweeted.

It remains to be seen if Brayan Leon will rediscover his form.
