Baste Duterte arrives at Senate for VP Sara impeachment

Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte arrived at the Senate on Tuesday morning for the impeachment trial of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.

The House Prosecution panel will call on Baste Duterte to testify on Article 2 of the Articles of Impeachment, which alleges that the Vice President accumulated unexplained wealth.

On Monday, he requested to appear on September 29 to 30 to be given time to prepare the necessary documents for his appearance before the Senate impeachment court.

The mayor previously said that the Davao City government's transactions with GenCorp. reached over P33.2 million across 19 contracts, that these are all aboveboard, and that he and the other city government officials “never had any knowledge of Sara Duterte holding an interest in “Gencorp. Industries Inc.”

Sara Duterte declared GenCorp. Industries Inc. as one of her business interests in her 2024 and 2025 Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth. Her name, however, is not found in the company’s corporate records. —VAL, GMA News
