Kalonzo’s Ukombozi tour attacked by goons in Migori

NAIROBI, Kenya Nov 3 – Opposition leaders led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka were forced to condemn political violence after their Ukombozi tour came under attack by goons in Migori Town.

The incident happened on the final stop of the opposition campaign, which had earlier taken the leaders through Ntimaru in Kuria, Kehancha and Posta Grounds before arriving in Migori.

Kalonzo accused the police of using teargas against their supporters despite what he described as a peaceful political meeting.

“We need to do away with these goons. Why did the police lob teargas and yet we had a peaceful meeting? The script is throw the stones then teargas. It is very shameful,” Kalonzo said.

Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi went further, accusing Suna East MP Junet Mohammed of being behind the attack.

Muturi described the incident as a deliberate attempt to intimidate opposition leaders and prevent them from engaging with residents.

“The attack on us in Migori Town by goons sent by Junet Mohammed is a blatant act of political intolerance and an assault on our democratic freedoms,” Muturi said.

He accused unnamed political actors of using violence instead of engaging in democratic competition, warning that the opposition would not be intimidated.

“This is the politics of cowardice and desperation. Those who believe they can unleash goons on opposition leaders and intimidate us into submission must understand that they have gravely underestimated our resolve,” he added.

Muturi said the opposition would continue speaking against injustice and offering Kenyans alternative leadership, insisting that their right to political engagement was protected by the Constitution.

“We will not be silenced. We will not be intimidated. We will not surrender the democratic space that Kenyans fought so hard to secure,” he said.

The opposition team also included DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa and other leaders.

Muturi called for those responsible for the attack to be held accountable, warning against normalising violence as a tool of political mobilisation.

“You may send goons to attack us, but you cannot intimidate the people of Kenya into surrendering their democratic freedom,” he said.

The leaders maintained that they would continue with their political activities despite the incident.
