Maurizio Sarri admits he is ‘worried’ that Atalanta’s injury crisis keeps getting worse after the 2-2 draw at Fiorentina. ‘We are still alive and kicking, but it keeps getting more complicated.’
La Dea were already decimated going into the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence for this midweek round and the situation got even worse when Thomas Kristensen limped off clutching the back of his thigh in the opening five minutes.
Nonetheless, his side had taken the lead through Charles De Ketelaere, only to be overturned after the break by quickfire Alieu Njie and Joao Mario goals.
Nicola Zalewski drilled through a sea of legs for the final 2-2 result, another thrilling encounter in the wake of their 4-4 with Frosinone at the weekend.
Sarri reassured by Atalanta performance

“Fiorentina started strong, but we stayed in the game and created many situations that we could’ve made more of,” Sarri told DAZN Italia.
“Considering the difficulties we are dealing with at the moment, we are still alive and kicking. Compared to a few disappointing performances we put in a few weeks ago, I’d say we are alive.”
The injury crisis even struck the referee, as Federico La Penna sustained a muscular problem during the half-time break, so the restart was delayed while fourth official Livio Marinelli got ready to take over.

“The approach to the second half wasn’t easy, because the break was longer than expected due to the referee’s injury,” noted Sarri.
“Our situation just keeps getting more complicated. I don’t know if Gianluca Gaetano has an issue too, I haven’t spoken to the doctor yet.
“I will admit, I am worried. We had eight players out today and two more who were just coming back to the bench. It’s not a simple situation, but we won’t feel sorry for ourselves either.”

Atalanta were missing Gianluca Scamacca, Raoul Bellanova, Giacomo Raspadori, Franck Kessie, Sead Kolasinac, Isak Hien, Thomas Pompei and Odilon Kossounou.
Sarri had been critical of De Ketelaere’s performance, but he seemed to be everywhere today, scoring a goal and providing the assist for Zalewski.
