Sibisi’s contract situation explained by former Orlando Pirates star

Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi is yet to agree to a new contract with the Buccaneers, despite his importance to the team.

The defender’s current deal is reportedly set to expire at the end of the season, raising questions about his future at the Soweto giants.

Sibisi has been an important figure in the Pirates defence over the years and continues to play a key role in the squad. However, the club has yet to conclude negotiations over an extension.

Former Pirates goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane has offered insight into why the Buccaneers might not be rushing to secure the captain’s future.

Sibisi yet to extend contract with Pirates

Speaking to Soccer Laduma, the former goalkeeper praised the club’s leadership for successfully blending young talent with experienced players.

“Firstly, I must commend the Orlando Pirates leadership because they have transformed the squad. You can see there are a lot of young players in the squad and that has not disturbed the flow in any way. You can see that there is a handful of senior players, so that’s something that’s difficult to do for any young, to blend in the young blood with the seniors. They’ve done a tremendous job,” he job,” he told Soccer Laduma.

On Sibisi’s contract situation, Mabokgwane suggested that Pirates have a deliberate approach to contract renewals, allowing players to remain motivated and maintain their performance levels.

“With regards to Sibisi, the team does not really like to do things early, from my experience, which is also good because it keeps players pushing until the very end,” Mabokgwane said.

“Sibisi is one of the senior players, but it’s good what they do at the club. Sometimes to offer you a contract or an extension too early takes away that hunger and desire to keep on pushing. At a club like Pirates, competition is high, so you always have to be on top of your game.”

Sibisi has won eight trophies since joining Pirates in 2022.
