VIDEO: Nigerians cheer corrupt leaders, normalise failure — Charly Boy

Nigerian singer-songwriter, Charly Boy.

Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has berated Nigerians for what he described as their failure to hold leaders to account.

In a video posted via his Instagram page on Monday, the singer said he had never seen a country with a higher rate of dumb citizens than Nigeria.

Charly Boy, also known as Area Fada, listed what he called the signs of a failing nation.

“Nigeria is a country where good roads are treated as luxury. A country where people with steady electricity are classified as the rich. And a country where the price of food can jump from N10,000 to N100,000 overnight with no questions asked. And you call that a country?” he said.

The entertainer questioned the role of citizens in the situation, arguing that a nation cannot exist without them.

“Now tell me, can a nation exist without its citizens? No. Then what are the citizens doing? Watching creators make jokes and normalising the breakdown. And watching corrupt leaders campaign only to turn out and cheer them on. What a shame,” he said.

He described Nigeria as a great nation with vast resources yet trapped under poor leadership and voiceless citizens.
