World Cup returns to South Africa after a long time
The marquee 50-over competition returns to Africa after 24 years. Back in 2003, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya hosted the eighth Men’s Cricket World Cup.

What will be the format?
The 14-team tournament will adopt a four-stage format. A new opening “Super Series” round featuring the teams ranked 12th, 13th and 14th will determine one qualifier for the main competition.
The winner will join the top 11 teams in two groups of six, with the top three teams from each group and the next best-ranked side progressing to a seven-team “Super 7” round-robin stage.

ODI World Cup 2027 will begin on October 2
The 2027 World Cup will begin on October 2, 2027, and conclude with the final on November 21. South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will jointly host the 14-team tournament.
