Palangka Raya govt deploys drones for overnight wildfire patrols

Palangka Raya, C Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Palangka Raya government in Central Kalimantan has deployed five drone teams to monitor wildfire risks overnight and deter deliberate land burning.
Berlianto, head of the city's Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), said here Thursday that the surveillance effort involved personnel from several municipal agencies to strengthen wildfire preparedness.
"Over the past 10 days, we have deployed 20 patrol officers, working from 8 a.m. until 4 a.m. the following day," he said.
Berlianto, who also coordinates interagency firefighting teams, said the 20 officers work in rotating shifts to monitor conditions and detect potential fires early.
Alongside ground patrols, the city has formed five drone teams comprising personnel from Satpol PP, the regional planning and innovation agency, environmental, agriculture and food security agencies, and the housing agency.
Drone operations focus on nighttime and early-morning surveillance, beginning at midnight, to detect suspicious activity in fire-prone areas and deter deliberate land burning.
Berlianto said overnight drone operations followed instructions from the mayor, who wants more effective surveillance to prevent residents from deliberately setting fires.
"The mayor wants the drone teams to operate from midnight to anticipate residents who might be tempted to try burning land," he said.
By combining ground patrols with aerial surveillance, the city aims to expand monitoring coverage and detect wildfire threats earlier, allowing authorities to respond more quickly.
