Translate

PADANG BESAR: Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah has been suspended from Bersatu for two party election terms, effective Oct 13.

Perlis Bersatu chairman Izizam Ibrahim confirmed the authenticity of a suspension letter dated Oct 14 and signed by Bersatu Disciplinary Board chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan.

Izizam said the letter had been issued last week but denied circulating it.

"Yes, the letter was issued last week, but I was not the one who circulated it. The menteri besar is also aware of the suspension letter.

"For now, we are waiting for an official decision from the Bersatu central leadership and Pas assemblymen," he said.

The letter notifying Abu Bakar of his suspension went viral on social media earlier.

According to the letter, the party's Disciplinary Board, which met on Oct 13, decided to suspend Abu Bakar's membership rights for two party election terms under Clause 22.5.

The action was reportedly taken after he breached Clause 9.1.4 of the party constitution and its Code of Ethics and Conduct.

Following the suspension, Abu Bakar would automatically lose all positions he held in the party and be barred from making statements on its behalf until the suspension period ends.

However, the notice stated that he could appeal to the party's Appeals Board within 14 days of the notice's date.
