Man attempts to stab policeman at Batu 9 police station

CHERAS: A policeman narrowly escaped injury after a man tried to stab him while he was opening the gate of the Batu 9 police station here.

The incident occurred around 12.10am two days ago when the policeman, who was on duty, was approached by a man riding a motorcycle who wanted to enter the station compound.

A source said the policeman opened the gate before approaching the man to ask about the purpose of his visit.

"However, the man did not answer any questions before getting off his motorcycle and opening the storage box at the back.

"Unexpectedly, the suspect took out a knife and tried to stab the policeman in the right abdomen.

"Fortunately, the knife struck his belt, preventing more serious injury," the source said.

The policeman then struggled with the suspect before two other officers at the station came to his aid and helped restrain him.

"During the struggle, one of the officers who helped apprehend the suspect also suffered cuts to both palms.

"Initial checks found that the 54-year-old suspect had no previous criminal record and was not wanted by police.

"Police also seized a knife measuring about 20cm for further action," the source said.

The suspect was detained for investigation under Section 28A of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Police are investigating the motive behind the man's visit to the station and why he was carrying the weapon.
