Event: ‘The Last Two Cannibals on Cannibal Island’ – new theatre production at The Hive Studios

Translate

The Last Two Cannibals on Cannibal Island is not an allegory for a failing marriage, or anything so high-minded. It is, in fact, about the last two cannibals left on a small, forgotten island on the day they discover each other’s existence, and how they scheme and prevaricate, negotiate a tenuous trust, glimpse better possibilities, and try to find ways to avoid falling prey to their more immediate desires.

The Last Two Cannibals on Cannibal Island.

When an unexpected guest shows up with a unique gift, it changes the calculus, but old habits die hard. On a deeper level, the work examines the power of art, the impact of loss, and the weight of tradition, all in a fraught space where hope and fate share close quarters.

The work weaves together live music, tense stand-offs, high-minded speeches, low-minded comedy, deep theological quandaries, unsophisticated weapons, and hungry, half-naked men into an exciting, moving, and immersive 60-minute experience.

The Last Two Cannibals on Cannibal Island is a new original play by Kent Foran. Directed by Davina Cooke and Kent Foran, in co-production with Actors Gym HK.

  • Venue: The Hive Studios, 8/F, 12P Smithfield, Kennedy Town.
  • Date: Friday, Nov 6 at 7pm, Saturday November 7 at 7:30pm; and Sunday, November 8 at 3pm.
  • Tickets: Available now – HK$250 via Eventbrite.

Kent Foran is a Canadian writer, musician, and photographer based in Hong Kong. He wrote Snowmelt (WestK Funfest/ALAN) and was co-writer for two works of contemporary theatre, Report i and Report ii, performed at Tai Kwun (New Arts Power Festival) and Hong Kong Cultural Centre (New Vision Festival), respectively. He wrote the creative text for Still, Not Still (Arts Development Council), adapted the script for City Contemporary Dance Theatre’s Living Up to Death, and has done extensive translation, editing, and adaptation work for other productions and publications.

Glen Lloyd is a voice artist from Australia, whose smooth voice has featured in TV broadcasts, adverts, toys, ebooks, theatre productions, and more. He is also an avant-garde multi-instrumentalist musician for his one-man band: the crazy and cacophonous JUNK!.

Linus Yat Shan Fung is a Hong Kong-based clarinettist who has appeared in Hong Kong Arts Festival, Hong Kong New Vision Festival, as well as many other local and international festivals. He is a core member of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, Wuji Ensemble, Lenk Quartet, and Freespace Ensemble, among other groups. He has released many solo and collaborative recordings, including his debut solo album “KONG” and the EPs “Miserere Mei, Deus” with Loisey and “In the Dark” with Theresa Lam. He has recently returned from a solo tour in Europe.

Davina Cooke is an actor, theatre-maker and musician whose career spans the UK, Europe, the US, and Hong Kong. Founder of Treasure Chest Theatre, she creates original work exploring themes including grief, addiction, and mental health. She trains adults at Actors Gym HK and brings puppet theatre to schools. Davina was delighted to join Theatre du Pif’s 2026 Cast of Faith Healer and is excited to be co-directing with Kent for this production.
