Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has sought the House of Assembly’s approval to reappoint three commissioners and 10 new special advisers as he begins his second term in office.

The request comes after Mr Oyebanji’s swearing-in on 16 October for another four-year term, with the governor pledging to sustain ongoing projects, strengthen service delivery and consolidate its achievements.

In a letter addressed to the speaker of the assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, on Monday, the governor requested the screening and confirmation of Dayo Apata, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Akintunde Oyebode as Commissioner for Finance, and Oyebanji Filani as Commissioner for Health and Human Services.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode, disclosed the requests in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the proposed appointments are intended to ensure continuity in key areas of governance and enable the administration to settle into its second term.

“The proposed appointments reflect the governor’s intention to constitute key components of his administration early and ensure continuity in critical sectors of governance,” the statement read.

It added that the justice, finance and health portfolios were considered crucial to the effective take-off of the new administration, particularly amid prevailing developments in the country.

Mr Oyebanji also sought the assembly’s approval to appoint 10 new special advisers to support the day-to-day administration of the state. The statement did not disclose their names or specify the portfolios they would oversee.

The requests follow the governor’s recent appointments in the power, road infrastructure and transportation sectors, which were announced last week as part of efforts to organise his second-term administration.

The governor appointed Philip Atere as technical advisor for power infrastructure, Tope Fatukasi as technical advisor for road infrastructure, Sunday Makinde as technical advisor for airport, and Tajudeen Alingbolu as the Director -General, Ekiti State Transport Agency.
