Woman dies after refusing to leave burning house in Quezon
LUCENA CITY — A 65-year-old woman died after refusing to leave her burning house in Sariaya town, Quezon province, on Sunday, police said.
The Quezon police said in a report Monday that a male relative noticed the house on fire in Barangay Lutucan Bata and rushed inside to rescue the woman, who was reportedly suffering from an unspecified mental health condition.

The woman, however, refused to leave the house, forcing the relative to abandon the rescue attempt because of the intense heat, police said.

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters recovered the victim’s charred remains inside the burned house. Investigators are looking into the possibility that the victim herself may have been responsible for the fire, police said.
