MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday warned the public against a fake social media post claiming that the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) would be held on Dec. 14, 2026.

In a post on its official Facebook page, Comelec said an image shared by the page “Katribu News Online” announcing the supposed election date was false.

“Do not be misled by false information that could cause public confusion about elections. Ensure that news and announcements are obtained only from the Comelec’s official website and social media accounts,” the poll body said.

Veteran election lawyer Romulo Macalintal filed a petition for certiorari and prohibition before the Supreme Court on Sept. 27, challenging the constitutionality of RA 12326.

Macalintal argued that the postponement would result in an unreasonable extension of the terms of incumbent barangay and SK officials.

However, Comelec said RA 12326 remains in effect because the Supreme Court has yet to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) suspending its implementation.
