3 college students nabbed for fatal brawl in Agusan del Sur town


SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur — Police arrested two graduating college students on Thursday following a pre-dawn drinking brawl that left a 46-year-old man dead and another wounded in this town, authorities said Friday.
Brig. Gen. Rolindo M. Suguilon, regional director of Police Regional Office 13 (PRO-13), identified the suspects through their aliases as “Rommel,” 25, of Loreto town, and “Nomer,” 23, of Esperanza town. Both are fourth-year college students.
Investigators from the San Francisco municipal police station reported that the altercation broke out around 2:40 a.m. in Purok 4, Barangay II.

The suspects allegedly ganged up on the victims, identified by police only as “Marciano,” 46, and “Jobert,” 22, repeatedly punching them during a drunken argument.

Marciano was rushed to the Democrito O. Plaza Memorial Hospital in neighboring Prosperidad town but was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians. Jobert survived with multiple injuries.
Initial police findings showed both parties were intoxicated when the confrontation turned violent.
Responding officers launched a hot pursuit operation shortly after the incident, tracking down and capturing the suspects within the municipality later that day.
The two suspects are currently detained at the San Francisco municipal police custodial facility and face murder charges under Article 248 of the Revised Penal Code./coa
