Volunteer search for missing Tasmanian finds 'human remains'

Translate

A volunteer search team looking for missing George Town man Michael Vrankovic in northern Tasmania has discovered suspected human remains.

Mr Vrankovic has been missing since January 13 in the George Town area.

Police said a volunteer from the team contacted police immediately after the discovery today.

Forensic testing is yet to be completed, police said, but the remains are believed to be an adult human.

"At this stage, a formal identification is yet to be conducted, and that process will take time, which may be several weeks," Inspector Melanie Groves said.

"Following today's discovery, Mr Vrankovic's family has been notified, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."
