KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — A property agent was fined RM4,000 by the Magistrates’ Court here today after pleading guilty to disobeying a police order by following the convoy escorting Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday.

Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri imposed the fine on Bryan Marc Daniel, 27, and ordered him to serve eight months in prison if he failed to pay the fine. He subsequently paid the fine.

According to the charge, the accused, who was driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV), disobeyed a police officer’s order while the officer was carrying out his duties on the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), from Kajang towards Subang Jaya, at 9.32am yesterday.

The offence was charged under Section 21(2) of the Police Act 1967, which provides for a fine of up to RM10,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction.

The case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Farhanah Arul Hisham, while lawyer R. Karnan represented the accused.

Earlier, a video went viral showing an SUV driver following a police convoy escorting the Deputy Prime Minister from Kajang towards Sunway Medical Centre in Subang Jaya.

In the video, a police escorting officer warned the driver not to follow the convoy, but the man refused to comply and continued to do so. — Bernama
