A 42-year-old rider and his 11-month-old child died after a sand-laden dump truck tipped over and crushed their motorcycle on Luzon Avenue in Quezon City early Tuesday morning.

According to a report by GMA News' EJ Gomez on Super Radyo dzBB, the incident occurred near the intersection of Luzon Avenue and Congressional Avenue in Barangay Culiat.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) public information office chief Police Major Jennifer Gannaban said the rider was declared dead at 2:23 a.m., while the baby died at 4:55 a.m.

Meanwhile, the rider's 31-year-old live-in partner, who is the baby's mother, remained in the hospital for treatment after sustaining fractures in her legs.

The 29-year-old dump truck driver is now under the custody of the QCPD. He declined to give a statement to GMA News.

According to Gannaban, the truck reportedly lost its brakes while delivering sand from Pampanga to Quezon City.

The driver is facing a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injuries, and damage to property. —Joviland Rita/ VAL, GMA News
