CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The Department of Tourism (DOT) in Mimaropa encouraged all tourism establishments in the provinces of Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan to implement water-saving measures and protect guests and personnel from extreme heat as the El Niño phenomenon threatens water supplies and normal operations.

In Advisory No. 2026-10-004, DOT Mimaropa Regional Director Roberto Alabado urged tourism enterprises and industry stakeholders to adopt precautionary steps like repairing water leaks, maintain adequate water storage, monitor water usage, install water-efficient fixtures, and encourage guests to help conserve water — without compromising sanitation, hygiene, and food safety standards.

Outdoor activities should be rescheduled or suspended when heat levels become unsafe, with visitors promptly informed of any changes to services or itineraries.

Establishments were further advised to review emergency response plans and regularly inspect critical facilities to prepare for potential water shortages, power outages, and extreme heat conditions.

Closer coordination with local government units, tourism offices, and disaster management agencies was also emphasized.

“Significant operational disruptions and safety concerns must be reported promptly to the appropriate local tourism office or DOT MIMAROPA,” Director Alabado said. /jpv
