Indonesia's 2045 vision must ensure justice and dignity for all

Human rights need to become a living ethic in every environment,
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Human Rights Minister Mugiyanto Sipin has stressed that respect for human dignity and human rights must serve as the foundation for development toward Golden Indonesia 2045, ensuring that justice, protection, and prosperity benefit all people.
He made the remarks at the National Dialogue Toward One Century of the Youth Pledge, organized by the Swarna Dwipa Institute at the Youth Pledge Museum on Saturday (October 31).
"Human rights need to become a living ethic in every environment," Mugiyanto said in a statement issued on Sunday.
He said respect for human rights could not be achieved through regulations and institutions alone, but must also be reflected in public behavior, policymaking, and the conduct of the state.
He also emphasized the importance of public participation in rejecting discrimination, overseeing the exercise of power, pursuing justice, and demanding government accountability.
According to him, Indonesia should contribute to the development of global human rights discourse. However, international trust must be earned through strong ideas and accountable human rights practices.
"The world's human rights reference point is not a title we give ourselves. It is trust earned when our thinking deserves to be referenced and our practice can be trusted," he said.
At the dialogue, academic Frans Magnis-Suseno highlighted the importance of social justice and combating corruption in realizing the ideals of independence.
He warned that development would lose its meaning if prosperity were not felt by all segments of society.
The dialogue, themed "Toward One Century of the Youth Pledge: Thinking, Spirit, and Implementation Toward Golden Indonesia," also featured Warsito Ellwein of Agenda 45, Ulung Rusman of the INTI Association, and House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III member Slamet Ariyadi.
The speakers stressed that unity must be translated into concrete action, collaboration, and a commitment to addressing public needs. They said the vision of Golden Indonesia should not focus solely on economic progress, but also ensure a just, prosperous, inclusive, and dignified life for all.
