Habagat returns, brings rains to parts of Luzon, Visayas

MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon or habagat will return over the western sections of the country on Saturday, bringing scattered rains to parts of Southern Luzon and the Visayas, the state weather bureau said.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Loriedin De La Cruz-Galicia said the habagat will bring mostly cloudy skies and a high chance of rain over Occidental Mindoro, Palawan and Western Visayas.

“The southwest monsoon is once again affecting the western sections of Southern Luzon and the Visayas. This is currently causing mostly cloudy and overcast skies, as well as a high probability of rain, here in Occidental Mindoro, Palawan Province, and Western Visayas,” Galicia said.

Gloomy skies with isolated rains may also prevail over Negros Island Region and Zamboanga Peninsula due to the southwest monsoon.

Pagasa earlier said the habagat could once again affect Palawan, Mimaropa, and parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with localized thunderstorms bringing occasional rain, particularly in the afternoon or evening. /dp
