Two girls drowned while swimming in the Iponan River in Cagayan de Oro City on Sunday, All Saints' Day.

In a report by Cyril Chaves on GMA Regional TV One Mindanao on Monday, video footage showed rescue efforts for the two victims, aged 12 and 13, in Barangay Pagatpat.

Residents in the area were the first to respond after the victims reportedly called for help. A rescue team also arrived shortly to provide assistance.

Rescuers attempted to revive the two girls before rushing them to a hospital. However, despite their efforts, both victims were pronounced dead.

The victims' parents were left devastated by the tragic incident, mourning the loss of their daughters.

Following the incident, barangay officials said they would put up warning signs prohibiting swimming in the river to prevent similar incidents. —RF, GMA News
