The Crown and Silo stars confirmed for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo TV remake

The TV adaptation of Stieg Larsson's Millennium series of books has found the new incarnations of Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist, the hacker and journalist investigating a young girl's disappearance from three decades prior in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Inspired by the first Millennium novel, published posthumously in 2005, the upcoming Sky Original TV series has cast Silo star David Oyelowo and Viola Prettejohn, seen in The Crown and The Testament of Ann Lee as Mikael and Lisbeth.

Titled The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the show is set to bring Larsson's original story – previously told in the 2009 Swedish movie of the same name and in its 2011 English-language remake directed by David Fincher – into the present day.

The synopsis teases that the disappearance of Harriet Vagner will lead Lisbeth and Mikael to "explore how power, secrecy and misogyny take on new and insidious forms in an ever more connected digital world".

The eight-part thriller is written and executive produced by Apple Tree Yard and The Trial of Christine Keeler's Amanda Coe alongside Behind Her Eyes writers Steve Lightfoot and Angela LaManna. Reinaldo Marcus Green is the lead director on the series and is joined by Andrea Harkin and Amy Neil.

We can't wait for audiences to experience it."

Lisbeth and Mikael have been played by Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist in the Swedish adaptation trilogy, consisting of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, all released in 2009.

The roles were then portrayed by Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig in Fincher's remake, and by Claire Foy and Sverrir Guðnason in the 2018 sequel, The Girl in the Spider's Web.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will air and stream on Sky.
