Broncos CB Surtain's ankle injury considered short-term, sources say
The Denver Broncos received some good news on both star cornerback Pat Surtain II and wide receiver Pat Bryant as MRIs taken showed both avoided worst-case scenarios, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Surtain suffered a non-contact ankle injury that saw him go to the ground as he grabbed his right foot and ankle until the Broncos' medical staff arrived. He was helped to the locker room by Broncos personnel and didn't return for the second half.
The 2024 Defensive Player of the Year, Surtain is the key to the Broncos' defensive gameplan each week, but sources say he's expected to only be out in the short-term.
Bryant is expected to miss "a few weeks," a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Bryant sprained his ankle in Sunday's loss and left the field on a cart.
Bryant is second on the Broncos this season with 122 receiving yards, while his nine receptions are tied with Courtland Sutton for second on the team. He has has a touchdown catch.
The Broncos next face the winless Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon.
Information from ESPN's Jeff Legwold was used in this report.
