Exclusive: Coronation Street star names Todd Grimshaw's next love interest

Coronation Street actor Gareth Pierce confirmed who will be Todd Grimshaw's next love interest. Todd was recently involved in a harrowing storyline about domestic abuse at the hands of Theo Silverton, who was eventually murdered by Sarah Platt.

While Sarah is behind bars for Theo's death, Todd is struggling through his grief as well as the complex feelings he has surrounding Theo following the physical and emotional abuse he suffered.

However, Gareth, who won the Best Actor gong at the Inside Soap Awards 2026 for his part in the storyline, revealed who Todd will move on with.

Todd is set to spark up a relationship with his friend James Bailey, with upcoming scenes this week set to tease their romantic connection.

"I guess it's deciding at what point...it's not just a rebound," he said, speaking to Digital Spy exclusively at the awards bash. "I think that it may still be a little tentative.

"I think what is nice is that I was talking a little bit about the slightly hedonistic, maybe nihilistic side of Todd recently, where he's throwing himself into distractions.

"What's nice about this week's episodes is that it feels a bit more like he's just out there having fun rather than necessarily just drinking to forget. So yeah, they were fun to film."

The actor admitted that he hasn't seen these scenes yet, and that he is "interested to see how they've come across".

"I think that James is definitely a really good person to have in Todd's life in this next phase, and then we'll see where the writers want to take it," he added.

Gareth also gushed about how "thrilled" he was for the whole team at Corrie for winning big on the night, including nabbing awards for Best Soap and Best Storyline.

"I'm thrilled for the whole team. I think you know so much effort was put into this storyline from the very, very seed of an idea at conference by the storyliners, researchers, writers, and Stonewall and Gallup as well, the charities that advised on it," he said.

"So we definitely felt a weight of expectation. We wanted to do it justice. The big takeaway for the whole team and for me from this evening is that it has landed with the audience. They've been on the rollercoaster with us, and it's really gratifying and a really lovely feeling."

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
