Egypt urges Iran to halt attacks on Saudi Arabia
Egypt called for an immediate halt to all attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, stating that there is no justification for them and that they cannot be tolerated.
During a phone call on Tuesday with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty urged de-escalation and containing regional tensions, given their negative repercussions on the region’s security and stability.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in the face of attacks targeting its security and stability.
He noted that Egypt is seriously contemplating joining the “Mecca Joint Defense Agreement“.
He said that Saudi national security is an integral part of Egyptian and Arab national security, and affirmed his nation’s readiness to provide all forms of support and respond to any requests from the Saudi side, including military support.
Houthi warnings
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree warned Saudi Arabia of a harsh and painful response in Riyadh should Sanaa be targeted.
This warning came minutes after the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen announced it would issue a notice for civilians to evacuate a site in Sanaa in preparation for a precision operation.
This development also follows a request by the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen for civilians to evacuate the Yemen Oil Company site—specifically the al-Sabaha Central Station—in Sanaa, in the interest of their safety.
On the ground, fighting continues in Yemen between government forces and the Houthis, coinciding with the interception—by the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen—of Houthi attacks directed at Saudi Arabia.
The Yemeni Armed Forces announced that their warplanes had targeted Houthi elements in nine airstrikes in Taiz Governorate, in the south of the country.
US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, slammed the Houthis and said their conduct is unacceptable.
In contrast, a member of the Houthi group’s political bureau, Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, vowed a swift and painful response from the United States should it intervene in the conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia – warning of a full-scale escalation.
