SHAH ALAM: A lorry driver who rammed into 11 vehicles at a traffic light junction in Alam Budiman, Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari, yesterday tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

The collision, involving a 10-tonne lorry and 11 other vehicles at the traffic lights on Jalan Mokhtar Dahari, Section U10, left four people injured, including a 58-year-old man who sustained critical head injuries.

The 51-year-old lorry driver was arrested to assist in investigations after a urine test returned positive for both substances.

Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sarudin Samah said the 4.20pm collision involved 12 vehicles, including the 10-tonne lorry.

Based on preliminary investigations, the driver claimed that his vehicle suffered brake failure while travelling downhill from Puncak Perdana towards Puncak Alam, causing him to lose control.

The lorry then crossed into the opposite lane and rammed into 11 vehicles stopped at the traffic lights.

Sarudin said a breathalyser test and a urine test were conducted on the driver, with the latter returning positive for both substances.

He said a 58-year-old man driving a Subaru XV suffered severe head injuries and was receiving treatment in the red zone at Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Puncak Alam.

The victim's 53-year-old wife and 17-year-old grandson, who were also in the vehicle, were receiving treatment at the same hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.

Another victim, a 29-year-old Perodua Myvi driver, sustained bodily injuries and was also in stable condition.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1A)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Those with information can contact the investigating officer, Inspector Abdul Nasser Peping, at 012-286 3875.
