Bad news for Kaizer Chiefs! Three key players to miss Red Arrows clash

Translate

Kaizer Chiefs will be without several players when they face Red Arrows in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie on Friday evening.

Amakhosi head into the encounter trailing 1-0 following their defeat in the first leg in Zambia. They must win by at least two clear goals to secure qualification for the group stages.

Langelihle Phili, who joined Chiefs from Stellenbosch FC, remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from an injury sustained in August.

The Soweto giants are also still without Khanyisa Mayo, who picked up an injury during pre-season.

Kaizer Chiefs have two attackers out

Meanwhile, Thabiso Monyane is expected to miss Friday’s encounter after coming off during last weekend’s match against Red Arrows.

There is, however, some positive news for Chiefs, with goalkeeper Brandon Petersen expected to be fit for the clash. Despite his expected availability, Renaldo Leaner is tipped to start between the posts.

Red Arrows head coach Chisi Mbewe was confident that his side would beat Kaizer Chiefs to advance to the next round.

“I can assure you that this time around, Red Arrows is qualifying for the group stage, he said as per KickOff.

“On a scale of one to ten? I would say eight out of ten.

“We’re only maybe disappointed on the part where we created a lot of chances but only managed to convert one goal.”

Kaizer Chiefs will need a strong performance at home to overturn the first-leg deficit and keep their hopes of reaching the CAF Confederation Cup group stages alive.

Failure to reach the next round will put more pressure on head coach Fernando Da Cruz.
