KUALA LUMPUR: Two men suspected of stealing cables were arrested after the car they were travelling in crashed into a drain while fleeing from police in Taman Sri Watan, Ampang, yesterday.

Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Khairul Anuar Khalid said police received a tip-off from the public at about 5.53am.

He said a police patrol spotted a blue Perodua Aruz without registration plates parked along Jalan Watan 8. The driver attempted to flee when police arrived, prompting a chase that ended when the car crashed into a drain.

"Both men in the vehicle were arrested," he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Sections 186, 379, 431A and 124K of the Penal Code, as well as Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Earlier, two videos showing police arresting the suspects behind a row of shops went viral on Threads. The videos also showed cables believed to have been targeted for theft.
