Great British Bake Off fans claim Paul Hollywood is "fuming" after Mary Berry's "return"

Translate

Fans of The Great British Bake Off were in hysterics on Tuesday evening after Mary Berry made somewhat of a return to the Channel 4 show.

The 20 October episode of GBBO saw the remaining hopefuls tackle Dessert Week, and the Showstopper Challenge was no easy task.

Judges Paul Hollywood and Nigella Lawson asked the hopefuls to create their very own dessert trolleys with retro puddings.

As the pair made their way around the tent with hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding to see who was making what, they were left rather stunned by one contestant.

As Yannis set about making various retro puddings, he admitted he was using a recipe that belonged to someone very familiar.

"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm using Mary Berry's recipe," he told Paul and Nigella.

Noel immediately started laughing at the look on Paul's face and, as Yannis continued describing his plan, Noel blurted out: "Look at him, livid! All he can think about is Mary Berry!

Paul's reaction certainly didn't go unnoticed by viewers tuning in at home as one person claimed on X: "Paul is fuming he’s using Mary Berry’s recipe."

Another person said: "Using Mary Berry's recipe and Paul is furious. Hahaha! In your face Paul," and a third wrote: "not Yannis using Mary Berry’s recipe instead of Paul or Nigella's."

Someone else added: "MARY BERRY'S RECIPE IS HILARIOUS."

Of course, Mary was an original judge on The Great British Bake Off alongside Paul when it first hit TV screens back in 2010.

However, in 2016 she made the decision to leave Bake Off and was replaced by Dame Prue Leith, who appeared on the show up until last year.

In January 2026, Prue announced her retirement from Bake Off in an Instagram post, and was replaced by Nigella Lawson for this year's series.

The Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays on Channel 4 at 8pm.
