An off-duty IDF soldier was detained by West Bank District Police after shooting at Palestinians who he said threw stones at him, Army Radio reported on Sunday, citing the IDF Spokesperson's Unit.
The soldier was taken in for questioning to clarify the circumstances of the shooting and was suspended by the military pending the conclusion of the inquiry.
The IDF said that soldiers were deployed to the Palestinian village of Al-Mughayyir several times on Saturday amid reports of stone-throwing between villagers and Israeli civilians, with stones thrown at the soldiers themselves upon arrival.
The military added that it received a report of the incident involving the off-duty soldier, which occured on the outskirts of Al-Mughayyir.
No on-duty IDF soldiers present at time of shooting, no injuries reported
It noted that no other IDF soldiers were present at the time of the incident, which caused no injuries.
The incident comes amid rising tensions in the West Bank, with security officials warning earlier on Sunday that Hamas will likely attempt to advance terror plots targeting Israeli soldiers and civilians.
