ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday announced that 1,315 farmers would benefit from the P1.49-billion Alfonso Lista Pump Irrigation System (ALPIS), which he inaugurated in Barangay Sto. Domingo in this town.

Marcos said his administration had prioritized irrigation for farmers when he assumed office in 2022.

“Alam po naman natin na ang pinakamahalaga sa pagsasaka ay ang patubig. Malaki ang pagbabago kapag ang non-irrigated areas ay magawan na ng paaran na mapatubigan,” the President said.

(We know that what is important is irrigation. There will be a big change if we can convert non-irrigated areas to be irrigated)

“Dahil sa mga magsasaka, nakakakain ang tao sa buong Pilipinas (Because of farmers, we were able to eat in the Philippines.),” he said.

From 275-hectare irrigated farms, the facility will serve up to 2,300-hectare farms, Marcos said.

He also led the ceremonial unveiling of the irrigation project marker and toured the facility’s control rooms and pump house.

Marcos viewed the vegetable produce displays of farmer-beneficiaries, and he was later briefed on the irrigation project./coa
